Makawao is known as one of the original Paniolo Towns in Hawaii.  (Paniolo means Hawaiian Cowboy.)

Subsequently, you'll find all the charm of a farm/horse community only you also get views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.  You'll find great places to eat and excellent boutique shopping.

We took this photo from the south side of Maui.  The rainbow is sitting just over Maalaea Harbor.  The view is pretty amazing and you can see the West Maui Mountains very well.
